Shadow of the Almighty

Under the shadow,

under the shadow,

oh, keep me Lord,

within the meadow;

forsake me not, o my God,

do not let Your glory depart

from my soul; let me want not.

Let me spend a day, and then more,

if not, then a day and then no more,

but make that day last forever,

the shadow my soul longing for.

Hide from me the horrors of my heart,

yet expose me to it, that devilish art,

that I might weep and then repent,

and never from the shadow again depart.

Let Your glory scorch all,

dispel from the soul the gloomy pall,

restore unto me Your great a-shaking joy,

to heed the wondrous Christo call.

Let me rest a second in the Holy;

tis better than a profane eternity.

Under Thy shadow so keep me o Lord,

I rest me in the shadow of the Almighty.
