From all my days of boy to man
For all my days of boy to man,
I have only sought to fill my hand,
To feed the wants I so desire,
To sate the lusts of heart a-fire.
Delighted I in manhood pow’r,
No longer bound in boyhood mire.
Knowledge grew, from days to years,
Of the world, its joys and tears.
I learnt the sky, the moon, the stars,
The earth and its peoples living afar.
I saw the hills, the lakes, the sun,
The secret heart where dreams do run.
And found upon the sweetest lips
A promise of which the future drips
Into a time that is yet to be,
To whisper of warmth and love free.
I gained the independence so craved for,
Unto myself, the only law.
And so sinned greatly against God and neighbour,
To scorn the faith of father and mother.
But Thy kindness alone did save me from sin,
From my own heart, soul, my whole being therein.
A man in Christ from a boy of evil!
Has there ever been news like this gospel?
The more I grow, the more I see,
More sins to repent for than ever should be.
But found I the bliss of longer days,
I have more years found in Christ’s great grace.
